Urban growth and informal settlements
In this article we describe how aerial photographs and satellite techniques can be used to monitor the evolution of informal settlements. Nairobi informal settlements have been used for practical reasons, even if the town has not been affected by a conflict. Attempts to estimate the total population areas of informal settlements show that almost half of the population of the town is living in densely populated area, where infrastructure is poor.
